I can’t help but to find it all a little jarring.Īs the episode begins, Mob has snapped, believing himself stood before the charred corpses of his family. For this most part, this episode is fight scene after fight scene, and as usual, they look fantastic. Considering our viewpoint characters are Mob and Reigen, and neither of them really have a clue what’s going in either, it makes a lot of sense.
It’s almost like walking into a totally different story half way through. In episode 9, not only do we have to contend with remembering a whole cast of returning characters from the first season, but also have to learn about the new cast of villains of the upper echelon of the Claw organisation, and get to know about the layers of infighting and coups that are all happening on top of all of this. I’m not entirely happy with how we got here. While I had expectations is was going to make this turn eventually, I mean, look at the show’s high action opening. How did you find this Mob Psycho 100 episode? Let us know in the comment section! And don’t forget to check the rest of the Winter 2019 anime reviews on MANGA.After eight episodes of heart warming tales of personal growth and responsibility, Mob Psycho 100 suddenly feels like a totally different show. The revelation might have been a bit anticlimactic, but definitely not a reason to stop watching. Interesting how in the previous one I was hoping that this was still an illusion continuing from a previous arc, but I suppose I went too far with that. With little bit more action than usual, this was more of an effort to set the stage for this season’s final battle. Another interesting bit is the fact that the Japanese government seems to have infiltrated Claw. Politics: An interesting thing to look at: the illustration of Japanese politics, with the prime minister being an ethical man who is trying to tackle gender inequality, sexual, and authoritarian harassment (which, in case you don’t know, are pretty hot issues in Japan). All these characters seem to be rather expendable and remind me a bit of the early One-Punch Man episodes where villains would pop up every five minutes. The villains: Does anyone actually remember the name of a single Claw member? I sure as hell don’t. continuing on its motif of change, fire plays a pretty strong metaphorical role in this episode, with the fire on Mob’s house allowing this whole thing to be interpreted as another rite of passage for Mob. Episode HighlightsįIRE!: Out with the old and in with the new. A government effort to infiltrate them and destroy them fails, while we finally find out that Ritsu has join forces with the crazy redhead to stop them, while Mob’s parents are having a mini holiday in a hot springs hotel. In the meantime we get briefly introduced to Claw’s upper echelon, which is -YOU GUESSED IT- a bunch of overly stylized weirdos that have extraordinary psychic powers, who have just announced in Japanese television that they’re ready to take over the world. Mob shuts down and relaxes, then falls asleep. Reigen sees Mob and immediately knows he’s losing it, so he encourages Dimple’s theory of Mob’s parent being alive, even though Dimple and himself are not 100% certain that is the case. Mob is in a hurry so he makes the car fly there. He is then picked up by some ex-claw member (well you didn’t expect me to remember their freaking names, did you) under the pretext that his master is waiting for him along with all the ex-claw members. After a bit of questioning he realizes he failed to find the right people.
This minimal relief prevents Mob from exploding he does however immediately detect some nearby powerful psychics who, conveniently enough, are on their way to burn his house. Dimple rushes to assure him that these are dummies and his family is actually alive.
Straight away we get this whole new setup of orphan vengeful Mob debunked like BOOM. I think the shock was so profound for me that I actually wiped it from my memory I didn’t remember that was the last thing I saw. Right, so last episode, we were left witnessing Mob about to completely lose his shit as he found his parents and brother burned to a crisp. I’m not sure if I’m disappointed or relieved.
